It pours heavier than water and lighter than an essence, and it sinks in almost as soon as your palms meet your cheeks — leaving skin cushioned rather than damp. A relaxed aqua-floral scent lifts off it for a second and then settles.

[Collagenesis(R)] The complex the 2025 formula is built around — peony extract, rose extract, hydroxyproline, bupleurum root extract and glycerin. Shiseido says it was selected from roughly 140,000 possible combinations, and it works on the firmness side of ageing care rather than on surface hydration alone.

[What Shiseido's Testers Said] In the brand's own pre-launch monitor (100 women in their late 30s to 60s, 15–21 October 2024): 97% agreed the texture was smooth, 95% that it felt richly moisturising, 94% that it sank in well.

[Ion-Penetrating Moisture] The toner-specific carrier system — lauryl dimethylaminoacetate betaine, xylitol and glycerin — is built to carry moisture down through the stratum corneum rather than sit on top. Collagen GL (water-soluble collagen F + glycerin) holds it there.

[Fine Lines and Visible Pores] With continued moisture the formula is designed to make dry fine lines and the enlarged pores that come with age less noticeable.

[The Glow Spot] ELIXIR builds everything around what the brand calls tsuyadama — the highlight that sits on the top of a well-conditioned cheek. This toner is the first step toward it. The Lift Moist series has taken 52 Japanese Best Cosme awards to date (29 for the toner, 21 for the emulsion, 2 for the pair; brand figure, June 2025).

[Two Textures] Rich Moisture is the more emollient of the two — smooth, slightly viscous, leaving a plumped finish. Dewy Moisture is lighter and more watery, sinking in fast and finishing non-tacky. Same formula family, so choose by how your skin feels rather than by season alone. (The previous generation's three-step I / II / III ladder was retired in this renewal.)

[The Scent] A relaxed aqua-floral. Top: sweet orange, thyme, bergamot, rosemary, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple. Middle: benishizuka, jasmine, muguet, rose, violet. Base: cedarwood, musk.

[Cleaner Base] Alcohol-free and paraben-free. A Japan domestic quasi-drug (医薬部外品); tranexamic acid is the active ingredient, approved there for preventing rough skin.

[How to Use] Morning and night, after cleansing. Take about a 500-yen-coin amount into your palms and press it gently over the whole face. One bottle lasts roughly a month at daily use.

[Refill, and Why It Matters] The 150mL pouch refills the 170mL bottle. Shiseido puts the saving at about 85% less CO2 per unit than another bottle (verified under the SuMPO environmental label programme, ISO 14025); the bottles themselves use 72%+ recycled resin and are made in a plant running on 100% renewable electricity.
